Our First Training Weekend

Our first training weekend of the year is now in the books, and it was a blast! On Saturday morning, 19 cyclists from our club kicked off the season with a 40-mile ride winding through Irvine to Mission Viejo and back. With just over 2,000 feet of climbing, the route was perfect for getting us ready for Oceanside 70.3 in April. After a quick run off the bike, a solid contingent made it over to Johnny’s Pizza to refuel and socialize at a more pedestrian pace.

Sunday saw us enjoy the sunrise at Marina Park in Newport Beach, where we got in some tame open water swimming practice. The half dozen swimmers were joined by 12 more runners and walkers who took to the Balboa Peninsula boardwalk on foot. The boardwalk and path towards Huntington Beach are so accommodating. Regardless of what we were training for, we fed off the encouragement of the rest of the team. At the moment, we have teammates getting ready for a variety of running events ranging from 5Ks to the Surf City Marathon and Mendocino 50k.

Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the team next week!
